Framed Showers

Framed shower enclosures are often chosen by NC custom homebuyers. The frame style and finish can add dimension to any master bathroom.

 

For example, this elegant master bathroom features a framed shower in an oil rubbed bronze finish.

This vaulted master bathroom is filled with creative angles and luxurious details.

This custom designed master bathroom features an angled shower, framed by a brushed nickel finish.

A half-wall of glass allows for a small toiletry shelf where the shower connects to the vanity.

Frameless Showers

Frameless shower enclosures are also popular among NC custom homebuyers. The frameless look adds a feeling of openness to the room.

 

This is a completely frameless shower design features a finished glass enclosure with brushed nickel top piece and hinges.

A built-in tile bench provides extra convenience. Double shower faucets with separate temperature controls open up the possibilities.

Brushed and Satin Nickel Finishes

 

From country farmhouse to modern sleek, brushed nickel fixtures can add class to your master bathroom.

The two custom homes pictured here (the Carwile and the Worthington) suit different personalities, with the same classic look and feel of brushed and satin nickel.

 

 

 

 

 - Craftsman style vanity light fixtures versus contemporary style hanging chandelier light fixtures 

 - Rounded and angled features versus squared and straight features (including towel ring, faucets and cabinet pulls)

 

 

 

 

Oil Rubbed Bronze Finishes

The oil rubbed bronze finish style was introduced into the marketplace to compliment Old World styles (French Country, English County) that were designed to look antique in nature.  Oil rubbed bronze bathroom finishes first became popular starting in the 1990's.

 

The two custom homes pictured here (the Beaufort and the Brogan) use oil rubbed bronze fixtures to create an updated-antique feeling.

The oil rubbed bronze fixtures can be juxtaposed against lighter tans and white to "pop," or they can blend in more to emphsize the dark tones in a tile.

Brick Patterns Visually Expand Space

Any time a brick pattern is used in a back splash area it visually expands the space - perfect for smaller alley kitchens or large kitchens open to the great or living room.

The NC custom home pictured to the left is a kitchen in a one-story floor plan, the Bethesda. This kitchen is an alley style, with an arched opening to the dining and great room.

The light oak cabinetry helps keep the efficiently laid-out room open, bright, and welcoming.

Chrome/Nickel Master Bathroom Fixtures

Whether satin nickel, brushed nickel, or chrome, silver hardware is a classic choice.  

The Brushed Nickel fixtures in this master bath blend into the room for a more open, airy, cohesive feel.

The tile shower, floor and tub surround and cabinetry contain more neutral tones of brown and tan.

 

 

Brushed nickel has been the hardware of choice for premium homes for a number of years now, while the less expensive Chrome finish was generally found in production homes.

However, in the past year, Chrome has become quite popular, and is anticipated to outrun Brushed Nickel in premium baths in 2012.

Where Should I Place the Toilet?

As you plan your new home, make sure you consider master bathroom layout options.

While kitchens, outdoor living spaces, and family areas can be some of the most fun aspects of your home to plan, the location of the master bathroom toilet can still an important aspect of your everyday routine.

Here are the top four most popular master bathroom toilet locations, to help you decide which style best suits your personality. 

1. Private room with door

Want to maintain your privacy? Then consider floor plans with a completely separate "Toilet Room".

Having a separate door that can lock might be the most comfortable option for you.

2. Full privacy wall

 

If you feel a little claustrophobic in a closed commode room, then consider master bathroom layouts with a full wall separating the toilet.

Leave off the door, and the room will feel more spacious. Tucking the toilet away will still give you a comfortable level of privacy.

3. Half-wall for separation

Master bathroom layouts with a half-wall separating the commode maintain some privacy, while keeping a more open feel.

The side of a vanity can also serve as a half-wall for privacy in some floor plan layouts.

4. No wall or room - completely open bathroom

The fourth option? Consider a fully open master bath, with no wall or room separating the toilet.  

This master bath layout style is most common in an Accessible or Universal Design Raleigh new home. 

The separation allows for full dismount space, making the bath easy to use no matter what mobility device is present.
