2010 North Carolina Census Results

Wake County Highest Percentage Population Growth

The 2010 North Carolina Census results, released by the U.S. Census Bureau in March 2011, show a 43.5% increase in Wake County's population, a higher percentage increase than any other North Carolina county. Wake County's population has reached 900,993.

This population growth in Wake County strongly correlates to the projected 90% increase in Raleigh - Cary New Home Building Permits for 2011.

The 2010 Census also showed:

  • Raleigh is the most populous incorporated place in North Carolina, increasing by 46.3%

  • Durham is the fifth most populous incorporated place in North Carolina, increasing by 22.1%

  • 14 other North Carolina counties increased their population by at least 25% including: Franklin, Johnston, Harnett, Chatham, Hoke, Union, Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Iredell, Pitt, Camden, Currituck, Pender, and Brunswick.

  • Overall, North Carolina saw a 18.5% increase in population to 9,535,483, the second highest increase in 100 years of Census results.

  • The South (encompassing North Carolina) experienced an overall population increase of 14.3%, higher than any other region in the U.S.

Durham, NC continues to be a popular place to live in the Raleigh area.

The 2010 U.S. Census results showed a 22.1% increase in Durham's population, now reaching 228,330. This population growth strongly correlates to the projected 70% increase in 2011 Durham New Home Building Permits.
