But don't think that Market Restaurant is just about health and the environment. It also has a full bar with several signature drinks, and it offers an assortment of wines, beers, and cocktails.

Harry has been selling guitars in Raleigh for 25 years now.  And he's really good at it. 

With a selection that includes Fender, Gretsch, Eastwood, Hofner, Samick, Yamaha,
C. F. Martin, Taylor, James Goodall, and many, many other guitar favorites, plus amps, pickups, guitar parts, instructional books, and much more, there's plenty for any guitar lover to add something to their collection.

Harry and I talked about how Harry's Guitar Shop has become a Raleigh small business landmark.

"I was living in Carrboro, and there just weren't enough people there to make another music store there workable- so I started looking at Raleigh," said Harry. "It has turned out to be a very good place to plant a new business, with a strong support for music and arts here."

Harry isn't kidding.  Music and the arts have a permanent place in Raleigh, and it's never too late to start learning.

That's one of the things this Raleigh guitar shop does best - guitar lessons!

I asked Harry how many students, adult and kids, started lessons at Harry's but had never played guitar before.

"Lots!! In 25 years- thousands of folks have taken lessons from us- many from scratch- others started on their own, and needed a little help," said Harry.  "Almost everyone can learn to play enough so that its enjoyable to them."

"Some are happy playing songs for themselves, some want to play at a more complex level- but in reality, it's all music, and it's good for the soul."  It's a simple philosophy, but one that rings true throughout Harry's Guitar Shop and the friendly, helpful staff you'll find at every visit.

If you're thinking of guitar lessons, it's never too late to get started!  Harry's Guitar Shop has ten teachers that offer lessons 6 days a week, and about 350 people come to Harry's Guitar Shop every week for personal lessons.

As you would imagine, after 25 years in the music business, Harry has seen a lot of different instruments and heard a lot of stories.  I asked him to share one of the most interesting things he'd ever seen.

"One day someone brought me an old arch-top guitar into the shop and wanted some minor repairs done. Lots of guitars have a story," said Harry.  "This customer went on to tell me that the family legend was that this guitar had once belonged to Charles Manson. (yikes!) We fixed up the guitar- and hope that we sent it on down the path to spread only good music and not evil!"

What brings people back to Harry's Guitar Shop, over and over?  Harry summed it up very well.

"We really like guitars, and amps, and feel a kinship with the people that play them," said Harry. "We are very lucky to have something in common with our customers. The hope is that we can make it more fun, every day."

Harry will be playing with "Mr. Mustard", an acoustic trio that he's been with for the last six years. Enjoy acoustic versions of rock songs from the 60's and 70's!

"No matter what their personal circumstances are, people will be generous to animals," said Green. "And accidental litters do happen.  Our mission is to focus on low cost solutions to pet overpopulation, targeted to low income families."

But it's not just a great cause that keeps people shopping at ReTails.  Thrift store shoppers can find housewares, clothing, electronics, jewerly, art, and much more. 

"We have wonderful donors.  We often recieve 30 to 50 donations per day," said Green. "We have a very small regular staff, and the rest of the work is done by our terrific volunteers."

 Escazu Artisan Chocolates | 365 Things to Do in Raleigh

Unique Flavors, Gifts, and Tours on Blount Street

Food should not be rushed.

Especially the finest in chocolate.

That's the philosophy of co-founder Hallot Parson, originally a chef.  

When visiting Escazu, Costa Rica, Hallot and partners Robert Henkens and Celia Bonaventura were inspired to start this unique business by an organic cacao farmer. 

They watched the farmer begin to grind his own chocolate - and the idea for Escazu Artisan Chocolates was born.

At Escazu Artisan Chocolates, cocoa beans are carefully selected from Costa Rica and Venezuela. 

Then begins the artisan process. 

Chocolate this good takes several days to make, starting with roasting the beans. 

When the beans are done roasting, they are cracked and the husks are removed.  Special recipes are prepared, and everything is done using antique equipment.

When the bars are finally finished, they are wrapped by hand.

Outdoors and Recreation

Summer is here-time to get outside for some adventure. At the Eno River State Park , you and your family can enjoy camping, canoeing, kayaking, wafting, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and special events such as learning how to identify animals by their tracks and discovering different types of dragonflies that live nearby.

Bring your own equipment, or rent canoes, kayaks, or rafts from local vendors such as Frog Hollow Outdoors.

Frog Hollow is located at the West Point on the Eno River.

You can rent for the day, or by the hour.

See how much of the 33-mile-long river you can travel in a day trip.

Make sure to check the Eno River Park website for current water levels, and ideal boat docking areas.

Generally, the river should be at least six to twelve inches deep, and one to three feet is best for canoes and kayaks. There are several docking areas throughout the park.

In addition, there are 25 miles of secluded hiking trails throughout the park, divided into 16 named and mapped trails.

After your excursions, you can check out one of several covered picnic areas complete with grills, tables, water fountains, and nearby restrooms.

If you're up for an over-night trip, the park has 13 designated camp sites, designed for both group reservations as well as individual walk-ins.  

The Eno River State Park is located minutes from Durham, Hillsborough, and Chapel Hill.

Falls River Books is actively involved in the non-profit North Raleigh Farmers Market.  Steven does all the website work for this community resource, and his Durham store manager also serves as the Farmers Market manager.   Stop by and pick up some local produce from more than 20 area farms. 

Sweet Tea Cafe

Local farmer's market products and fresh, healthy foods are tough to find at the mall.  But this fall, Sweet Tea Cafe will be opening in Northgate Mall, next to the indoor train.   Guests will enjoy seating, terrific freshly prepared local foods, and even a community table for meetings and parties.

ArtsTogether is Raleigh's only nonprofit multi-arts school, located in downtown Raleigh across from St. Mary's School.  ArtsTogether has been offering a wide variety of dance, theater, art, and music classes for ages 3 to adult since 1983.

In addition to its regular classes, Arts Together also sponsors The Rainbow Dance Company, a multi-age modern dance company.
