Train for Green Jobs at Wake Tech

What is a "Green Job"?

Wake Tech defines a Green Job the same way as the NC Sustainable Energy Association:

• A job that pays a livable wage, and
• A job that has a net positive impact (direct or indirect) on the environment.

Green Job Opportunities

The Green Movement is still in the forming stages, but is continually growing.  Right now, Green Jobs will be included within Wake Tech's current training in traditional technology programs of plumbing, heating and cooling, construction, civil engineering, architecture, landscaping, environmental sciences, automotive, and heavy equipment technologies.

There are several ways to gain needed skills for Green Jobs at Wake Tech:

1. Gain the skills for employment in a Green Job with a two year Associate of Applied Science degree, a one year technical diploma, or a technical certificate, or
   
   
2. Earn a two year Associate of Science or Associate of Science in Pre-Engineering degree, then transfer to a four year college or university and earn a bachelor's degree in a Green Job related degree program
   
   
3. Take Green Job Continuing Education (non-credit) courses to gain specific skills and certificates 

Wake Technical Community College just announced two eight-week programs designed to prepare workers for jobs that focus on home energy efficiency and smart home technology.

The programs are free for unemployed and under-employed workers who qualify.

Unemployed and under-employed workers, including former tobacco farmers and other displaced agriculture workers, may qualify for free tuition by completing a Career Readiness assessment. For more information, visit http://greenjobs.waketech.edu.

Deutsche Bank to Hire Locally - New Banking Jobs

Deutsche Bank, which has 78,896 employees in 72 countries, has just announced plans to establish the DB Global Technology Center in Cary, NC after much negotiation.

More than 300 technology jobs will be available over the next 5 years. 

The new Deutsche Bank jobs will pay an average annual salary of $88,213, which is more than double the Wake County average salary of $43,160 (according to the NC governor's office).

Deutsche Bank will move into temporary quarters in Cary NC in the next couple of weeks, and plans to begin hiring very shortly.

For the last 10 years, Parenting Magazine has put out a list of the top 40 family friendly companies to work for in North Carolina. 

According to Parenting Magazine, these are the top Family Friendly companies that offer on site or near site child care.

We've highlighted some quick facts about each, to help you find a great family friendly place to work and have your children nearby!

Bright Horizons Family Solutions

Named one of Fortune Magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" in 2008, Bright Horizons offers child care discounts on tuition, tuition reimbursement for continuing education, tax-free commuting, employee assistance and referral programs, and many other benefits. Located in Raleigh, CBC is in charge of broadcast favorites such as WRAL-TV, FOX50-TV, NCNN and 99.9 The Fan. This is the first time CBC has made it to the top 40 list family friendly company.
