African American Cultural Complex
Features: Collection of African American exhibits featuring innovations in the arts, business, medicine, politics, science, and sports.

Cary Heritage Museum
Features: Two galleries of regional art, in a restored 1868 railroad hotel, on the third floor of the Page-Walker Arts & History Center

Garner Station Historical Museum
Features: Historical artifacts from the town of Garner, housed in the city's original depot.

Features: Changing exhibitions of regional, national and international visual arts, and local artists renditions of applied and decorative arts, architectural drawings, ceramics, paintings, photography, textiles, metal and furniture - all housed in NC State's museum facilities in the Talley Student Center. Tours and educational programs are available.
Hours: Mon-Fri, 12-8pm; Sat-Sun, 2-8pm; closed on NCSU holidays and between exhibitions

Features: Wake County's oldest existing home, built in the 1770s. Guided tours of the fully restored and authentically furnished house and period gardens are provided by costumed docents.
Hours: Tours begin in the Visitor's Center at 160 S. Saint Mary's Street, Wed-Fri 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm; Saturdays 1pm, 2pm, 3pm. School tours by appointment; reservations for groups of eight or more. Closed mid December - February
Admission: $5 adults, $4 65 and older, $3 students, free for children under the age of 6
Legends of Harley Drag Racing Museum
The only Harley-Davidson drag racing museum in the world; home of world-famous drag racing champion Ray Price. It is located on the second floor of one of the largest Harley dealerships in the U.S.
Admission: Free
Hours: Mon-Fri., 7am-6pm; Saturday 7am-4pm; Sunday noon-4pm.

Features: Hands-on museum, IMAX movies.
Admission: $5 for museum, IMAX rates vary
Hours: Tues-Sat 9am-5pm; Sunday 12pm-5pm; Monday closed.

Features: Antebellum village street of historic structures, including plantation house birthplace of Andrew Johnson, 17th president of the United States.
Admission for park tours: $5 adults, $3 seniors, $3 ages 7-17, free for children under age of 6.
Hours: Tues-Sat, 9am-4pm; Sunday 1-4pm. One hour tours begin every hour until 3pm.

North Carolina Museum of Art (reopening April 2010)
Features: Premiere visual arts museum in Southeast, with collection from classic to contemporary spanning 5,000 years. Special exhibitions, films, lectures, workshops and concerts are hosted in the Museum Park amphitheatre. 164-acre Museum Park will remain open while museum prepares for grand opening of its new gallery building in April 2010.
Admission: Free. Nominal fee for special exhibits.

North Carolina Museum of History
Features: Exhibitions of historic military, art and sports. Hosts craft demonstrations, concerts and events, in conjunction with the Office of Archives and History, N.C. Department of Cultural Resources. Museum Shop, featuring North Carolina crafts, is open daily.

Hours: Mon-Sat., 9am-5pm; Sun., noon-5pm.

North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences
Features: Four floors of exhibits including the world's most complete Acrocanthosaurus dinosaur, living conservatory, animals, a store and Arco Café. Traveling exhibits from around the world are on display throughout the year.
Admission: Free, donations accepted, charge for special exhibits
Hours: Mon-Sat 9am-5pm, Sunday noon-5pm

North Carolina Railroad Museum & New Hope Valley Railway
Features: Outdoor, self-guided tours of historic railroad equipment. Trains operate the first Sunday of each month May-November and Saturday and Sunday the first two weekends of December. First train of the day departs from the Bonsal Depot at 11am.
Admission: Free to walk the grounds; train rides $9 adults, $6 children 12 and under.

North Carolina State University Insect Museum
Features: Internationally recognized collection of insects and mites from the Southeastern United States.

Page-Walker Arts and History Center
Features: Two galleries of regional art in a restored 1868 railroad hotel; the Cary Heritage Museum.
Admission: Free
Hours: Mon-Thurs 10am-9:30pm, Friday 10am-5pm, Saturday 10am-1pm

Featuring exhibits that change periodically and focus on the history of the city, the museum is housed in the historic Briggs Building, built in 1874 as a hardware store. The building retains many of its original features, including the tin ceiling in the museum gallery. A gift shop carries unique items associated with Raleigh's history.
Free admission. Group tours available with advance notice. Hours: Tues.-Fri., 10am-4pm; Sat., 1-4pm.

Spring Hill House
Features: Tours of plantation once owned by Colonel Theophilus Hunter, pioneer settler and early Wake County leader.

The North Carolina Museum of History is impressive - starting with the exterior of the modern, clean building.

Everywhere you go in Downtown Raleigh right now, your eye will catch one of these signs.
There are artifacts and exhibits, photos and bits of pottery. There are elaborate chests and pottery jars. And there is so much history. You'll learn how the scrolls were found, and learn about the remnants of the ancient city they were near.

"Around Town" is our favorite place to visit. There are terrific play areas like the grocery store that has hundreds of realistic food items, shopping carts, Lowe's Foods aprons for stocking shelves, and a couple of cash registers.
