BusinessWeek Names Top 100 Markets - Hiring in Third Quarter 2010

With 19 percent of Raleigh-Cary companies planning to hire in the third quarter, the Raleigh area continues to be one of the nation's best job markets.  Raleigh, at number 5, is keeping company with El Paso TX, Greenville SC, San Antonio TX, and Washington DC as the top hiring locations for the latter part of 2010.

Population: 1,125,827 (+3.2 percent YOY)
Unemployment rate: 8.2 percent

Businesses in the Raleigh-Cary area expect to hire at a healthy pace during the third quarter of 2010, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey. One sector with rebounding employment is IT: A report by staffing firm TEK Systems found the number of IT job openings in Raleigh-Cary in April was up 6 percent from a year earlier. The area is part of North Carolina's Research Triangle, which includes North Carolina State University, Duke University, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Major employers include IBM (IBM - News), BASF, and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK - News).

Triangle Employers Looking to Hire

Raleigh/Cary Area Top in Nation for Expected Job Growth

More Raleigh area companies are expecting to hire new employees during the second quarter of 2010, according to an in depth quarterly survey by Manpower, an industry leader for staffing.

The survey shows that 18 percent of Raleigh-Cary area companies plan to add workers in the second quarter (March to June), while only 2 percent plan to decrease staffs, for a net gain of 16 percent.

The Raleigh area ranks number 5 nationally, out of the 201 metro areas surveyed for each report. 

Overall, Manpower respondants expected to grow payrolls by 5 percent, which compares very positively to a year ago, when they planned to cut payrolls by 2 percent. 

The Raleigh area is expecting more than three times the growth of the national average.   Anchorage Alaska and Burlington Vermont both came in first, at 22 percent expected growth.   Raleigh ties for fifth place with vo, Utah, Loredo, Texas, and Milwaukee.

Just another sign that the Raleigh area is continuing to grow and thrive!
