Silk Hope Elementary School

Silk Hope Elementary serves over 500 students in the Silk Hope area, which is northeast of Siler City and northwest of Pittsboro in Chatham County.  The area is becoming sought after by families who work in the Triangle but want to raise their children in a country environment on their own land.  This elementary school has some terrific scores, for both teachers and students.

Silk Hope Elementary School

Overall reading scores (end of grade tests) for 2006/2007 were 92.2, versus a state average of 85.5 and a district average of 85.1.  Overall math scores for 2006/2007 were 84.9, versus a state average of 66.4 and a district average of 67.3.

This school is touted in the local area as having a long farming tradition, with multiple generations of the same family attending Silk Hope Elementary, which increases the chance of teachers and students knowing each other well.

The teacher turnover rate is extremely low - only 9%, compared to a state turnover of 21%.  There are also more fully licensed teachers here than at many schools - 97% are fully licensed, as compared to 91% throughout the state.

If you are considering moving to a neighborhood in the Silk Hope area, ask for a tour of the Silk Hope Elementary School, or check out the most recent report card at http://www.ncreportcards.org/.
