Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts

The Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts is the center of theater, dance, and classical music in the Triangle.
Hosting five seperate attractions, the Progress Energy Center hold performances and events year-round ranging from interpretive dance and broadway musicals to orchestral performances and arts and crafts fairs.

The five features in the Progress Energy Center are:
Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - home to most theater productions, the largest and oldest venue at 2,277 seats.
Meymandi Concert Hall - Excellent acoustics define this concert hall. It is the home of the North Carolina Symphony. It seats 1,700 people.

Fletcher Opera Theater - Seating 600 people, Fletcher is used for opera performances, chamber music, and anything else suited for the more intimate setting.
Kennedy Center - a "black box" style theater seating 130 people. Hosts nontraditional/experimental performances.
Lichtin Plaza - This is the 2-acre "front yard" of the Progress Energy Center. Home to outdoor music and trade festivals/events.

The Progress Energy Center is located at the southern end of downtown Raleigh, at the end of Fayetteville Street. Since the expansions in 2001 that created Meymandi, Fletcher, Kennedy, and Lichtin Plaza, the Progress Energy Center has served as the focal point of downtown Raleigh.
From the Progress Energy Center, you can walk down Fayetteville Street, a wide, tree-lined road, to the State Capitol complex. This route has always been a feature of Raleigh as it grew in the 20th century.

Several major groups perform regularly at the Progress Energy Center, including

- North Carolina Theatre
- North Carolina Symphony
- Broadway Series South
- Raleigh Little Theatre
- Opera Company of North Carolina
The Lichtin Plaza has hosted several music festivals featuring live bands. It also holds tented exhibitions of local crafts, and is often chosen to host annual community events.

The Progress Energy Center is less than half an hour away from every city in the Triangle. Durham, Cary, Apex, and Wake Forest all have direct access to the Progress Energy Center down major highways.
