365 Things to Do in Raleigh - Get a Hot, Fresh Doughnut
The Krispy Kreme Store - They Have Hats!
A box of Krispy Kremes is a glorious sight to behold. Original glazed, crullers, creme-filled. The list goes on and on. Nothing beats a doughnut for a quick dessert, and no doughnut is better than Krispy Kreme.
You can get Krispy Kremes at grocery stores, but that doesn't quite match up with the atmosphere of a Krispy Kreme store and the knowledge that the doughnuts are hot and fresh-baked. Downtown Raleigh at the southern end of Fayetteville Street is home to a wonderful Krispy Kreme store, located between the Bank of America and BB&T buildings.
Walking in through the glass doors, you are immediately greeted with The Smell. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then just go to the store to experience The Smell. Mere words can not do it justice.
Shelves and shelves of a variety of doughnuts of all types are arranged at the counter, and bright menus describe the doughnut flavors and also their drinks, including sodas, coffees (regular and frozen/mixed) and smoothies.
The Krispy Kreme store is in a perfect location if you're looking for a sweet bite during your lunch break, or if you want a reward after a long day at work. They stay open until later, too, so you can stop by for dessert after dinner out at one of the great restaurants that dot downtown Raleigh.
You can visit the Krispy Kreme website to view their full menu and learn practically anything about the company, store, and food.
Indulge today; you won't regret it!

I am so happy that i don't live really close to Krispy Kreme - it wouldn't be pretty! You are right, though, store bought has NOTHING on walking into the store when the HOT sign is on and getting a fresh doughnut - there is nothing better!
HOT sign, oh yea, that will get you up and out at midnight! Unfortunatley, they by-pass my stomach and afix themselves to my thighs.
I should not have looked at this post. My stomach growled the second I looked at that case of doughnuts.
Oh Krispy Kreme, yum yum. And when the "HOT SIGN" is on, there is nothing better. My cholesterol count can go up just by driving by! LOL
Penny - I just looked at the Krispy Kreme site to see whether there were still any stores left in Canada. There are two in Quebec and one in Ontario. There were a few more at one time but I don't think they were too successful up here. Too much competition from Tim Hortons and the other competitors.
I could go for one of those doughnuts right now. Thanks for sharing.
They ought to come with a warning from the Surgeon General.....or be registered with DEA....they are addictive and perfect with coffee!
Great post Penny. I went to High School in Winston-Saem and we spent many late nights at KK when the Hot & Now sign was lit. I am very excited that we will soon have our own Krispy Kreme in Fuquay Varina later this year.
Leesa - the first time I ever went to a Krispy Kreme was when I lived in Washington. It was a brand new store, and for the first couple of weeks they GAVE you fresh, hot donuts as you waited in line next to the conveyor belt. Nothing better, converted me for life!
