2012 Floor Plan Trends - Courtyard Entry Garage Options
Choosing a Courtyard Entry Garage in Raleigh
Wondering what kind of garage is best for your new Raleigh home? Here are the pros and cons of choosing a Courtyard Style garage!
Pros of Courtyard Entry Garage Floor Plans:
- Create an automatic set-back for the home, with space for kids to play safely away from the road
- Attractive front exterior with additional windows possible (front entry garages can limit front exterior windows)

Cons of Courtyard Entry Garage Floor Plans:
- Limits front yard grassy areas
- A courtyard garage home is usually a little more "spread out", which may result in a higher cost per square foot compared to a traditional "stacked" home
- May require extra care in choosing a home lot to allow for a deeper home.
A courtyard garage home can be extremely attractive - and it's just a quick hop from the driveway to the front door.

Penny, I have always thought these "courtyard" style garage entries were difficult to manuever. Of course, that's just a personal observation and perhaps I'm just lousy at parking. But it limits the range of where you can go when backing in or out. You wouldn't want to back into the front door!!
Cyndi
Cyndi - We've built a number of courtyard garage homes by request, and haven't heard any complaints about getting back out of the garage! Maybe it's because we help determine the ideal driveway size for the home and lot. But you illustrate an excellent point - the choice of garage style is very personal and will be determined by a number of factors.
