Pittsboro is a quaint small town just over 30 miles from the center of downtown Raleigh.
Pittsboro was founded in 1787 as the capital of the newly formed Chatham County.
Today, the historic district is a great place to walk and wander through shops.
There are antiques and old fashioned soda shops.
Fearrington is just a few miles north of Pittsboro on 15/501, and offers North Carolina's only 5 star inn.
Jordan Lake is just a few minutes away. With walking trails, fishing, boating, and almost 14,000 surface acres of water, this lake draws visitors from throughout the state.
Weekday mornings and early afternoons can be especially quiet and peaceful.
Chapel Hill is just 20 minutes away, north on 15/501.
Chapel Hill offers even more restaraunts and shopping opportunities, in places like Southern Village.
The UNC Chapel Hill Hospitals have an excellent reputation, and take special cases from the entire region.

Who has time to retire? LOL I'll probably be working as long as I'm physically and mentall fit, although some of my friends might claim that I'm no longer mentally fit and should retire now. LOL
Jim - You have to at least take vacations! The Raleigh area is wonderful for that as well, perhaps we'll see you here soon....

I have been through north carolina before and I really like the area. It seems very diverse.
Lee & Pamela - I see Pittsboro becoming a prime location in the next 5-10 years. One great feature is the fact that many of the developments in the area are focusing on much larger lots. Land right next to Jordan Lake is at a premium, but there are opportunities in the $200s and $300s that are 10-20 minutes away.
Eleanor - Fearrington is one of the top attractions, between the Farmer's markets, book signing events, shops, the country inn, and some of the best restaraunts in the area! One more great reason to live in Chatham County.
Shane - It is quite diverse, with some of the best cultural opportunities I've seen anywhere outside of New York City. Let me know when you're going to visit again, and I'll send you my favorite sites to see!
Great Place. Close to alot of stuff and the major development going on in an around Pittsboro is really nice.
Brian - With 3-4 more major shopping centers at some point in the planning stage, this will continue to be a top destination!

Jim - The Raleigh area in general has so many attractions for retirees, between golf, warm weather, cultural activities, great hospitals, and much more. And Pittsboro has such a great small town charm!
