Veteran Support - Specially Adapted Homes
Homes for Our Troops Completes 16th Home in 2008!
Homes Provided at No Cost for Severely Injured Veterans
Homes for Our Troops is one of the top-rated non-profit Veteran organizations in the country. With 16 homes completed in 2008, and 14 homes currently under construction, this group is making a difference for severely injured servicemen and women.
How does Homes for Our Troops do this?
Homes for Our Troops raises donations of money, building materials, and professional labor, then coordinates the process of building a new home.
Where does Homes for Our Troops build?
Across the country - check out this map of homes completed and under construction. Five homes have been built in North Carolina - in Waxhaw, Lumberton, New Bern, Roxboro, and Fayeteville.
Homes for Our Troops Named Top Rated Charity by American Institute of Philanthropy
The American Institute of Philanthropy, one of the country's premier charity watchdog organizations, has included Homes for Our Troops in their "Top-Rated Veterans & Military Charities" listing. Only 5 of the 32 Veterans charities rated by AIP are included in the Top-Rated Category.
Because of their stringent review process, the AIP is described as "the pit bull of watchdogs" by the New York Times. Newsweek said "It's the toughest of the bunch. Because it disregards certain, potentially suspect, expenses and donations, it fails some nonprofits that the other raters approve."
These specially adapted homes help them meet the challenges they face every day - and will continue to face every day for the rest of their lives.

Good for you. Our individual contributions to Veterans groups is small, but together we can make a difference.
Thank you Troops! This is a small way to thank you for all you have done!
Thanks for the info. This is a great way to support all that our troops have done for us.
Outstanding, Penny! Thank you for sharing that great information. Our young men and women do so much for us, make such sacrifice, it's good to know of credible resources we can use to show our appreciation!
What a great thing to do for the troops. They deserve our appreciation. Thank you the information on how I can become involved.
Hi Penny-This is awesome-Thank you for sharing the info. Happy New Year
Penny, this sounds like such a great program. Kind of like Habitat for Humanity is in specializing with a group. The severely injured Veterans have certainly given their all to our country.
What a wonderful charity. I am continually disappointed that this country does not do so much more for our brave heroes.
Hey, Penny. That is wonderful news for this veteran to hear. Thanks and I wish you all the best, Jim
Thanks Penny, a much needed service, good for you!
what an outstanding idea.... I have met a few of our wounded troops from Walter Reed medical center...what a great group of people...they deserve it... :)

Thanks for sharing information about this wonderful organization and how we can help support those you serve our country selflessly for our freedom.
Lenn - Yes, Homes for Our Troops will find a way to use every donation, no matter how small!
Charlene - You said it.
Judi - This program is a great way to help say thank you to a few of the servicepeople who have paid the highest price (and returned to their families).
Mark - It is indeed, along with other great everyday things like supporting the families of soldiers who are deployed, sending packages, etc.
Sharon - You as well!
Gary - You got it...
Ellie - You're not alone, that's why we began the Stanton Homes for Heroes program!
Another great post, Penny. You are on fire today.

What a great way to say "Thanks" to all our troops. I wish that we caould go it for every one of them.
Thanks for sharing, I recently saw a small segment on TV about this organization, but failed to get their info. There's never enough we can do for our service men and women.
That is a great way to give back to the people who give so much to us!!!
I had not heard of this charity before, so thank you!
Happy New Year!
I've been supporting Fishers House for years. I re-blogged your post for my Military Relocation News site.
What a great charity, someone told me that the government was thinking of let Vets have all the vacant or foreclosed homes at a fraction of the original loan amount. I wish could find out more or maybe someone has heard of this and can share it.
Penny: This is a great project. Thank You for sharing this information
Hi Penny. This is an amzing thing!! Thank you for making me aware of this...I had no idea.
Penny, Congrats on the star. I will keep my eyes and ears open to see if they are going to do any builds in this area. I generally do a habitat build every year...
